Let the Games Begin

The Twins opened their exhibition schedule yesterday with a sight that has become all too familiar to fans -- an inept offensive performance resulting in a loss. The Reds defeated the Twins 6-1 thanks to a pair of three-run innings. Glen Perkins surrendered a three-run home run in the fifth, and Ricky Barrett later gave up three more runs in the eighth. The Twins managed only five hits and scored their only run in the sixth inning thanks to three errors by Cincinnati fielders. Phil Miller observed that the loss was "awfully reminiscent of last season's constant search for offense." That's disheartening. It also gives me an opportunity to dust off the ol' "offensive ineptitude" post label. Sadly, I'm sure it won't be the last time I'll be attaching it to a post this season.

Of course, this was only the first game of the spring, so it's far too early to draw any conclusions or become overly concerned. Here's hoping the Twins look better tonight, with Boof Bonser facing off against Boston Daisuke Matsuzaka.

Sorry for the skimpy post today, but it was a long week and I'm beat. If anyone has anything interesting to discuss or debate in the comments section, I'll be around. Have a good weekend all.

* EDIT: Also, make sure to visit Twins Territory. They've launched their revamped and re-designed blog/fan community and it looks great!
