Update: Twins Sign Everett

According to Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com, the Twins have signed shortstop Adam Everett to a one-year contract. Everett became expendable to the Astros when they decided to trade for Miguel Tejada.

Step one to upgrading an anemic offense: sign a player with a .248/.299/.357 career hitting line to become your starting shortstop. Check.

  1. Does Eckstein look better now?

    No? No, I guess not.

SBG seems to like this guy.

It seems to me that maybe this trade makes a trade with the Mets for Santana more likely, since we no longer need Reyes.

Actually, this would be step two in upgrading an anemic offense. Step one was signing Monroe, a struggling veteran and redundant corner OF with lots of downside who can take ABs away from Kubel.

Everett sort of fits the Twins ideal for a shortstop - great glove, no stick. But his addition makes it even more imperative that we get Punto back to his role as a utility guy and not a regular in the lineup. That means finding a legit 3B, and they are in short supply. I don't think the Mets would part with Wright, even in a Santana trade. Harris, I think, now becomes the favorite for 2B considering his defensive limitations at SS and 3B, and the strength of his bat.

Hi, Paul here, life-long Astros fan. Don't have much to say other than enjoy! For the most part we really did like Everett, was a hard worker and a helluva fielder. His hitting was less than stellar, obviously, but I guarantee you he is a better than just about any other option out their for shortstop. Yes, his bat is weak, but I promise you he will save you more runs than any other shortstop could've scored for you. It's absolutely baffling how he never won a Gold Glove, but oh well. Congratulations, you'll like this guy. Wish we still had him instead of an over-the-hill juicer :-/

At least we have a shortstop now, some of us forget how we've won divisions in the past. Yes a couple were weak divisions, but we won with pitching and defense.

Also by no means do I think the Twins are done looking for a better SS, 3b and 2b. They're just trying to fill holes so for one they look less desperate and 2 it's time to start making backup plans in case a good trade can't be made to fill one or two of them holes.

This isn't the ideal SS, but assuming Santana is traded I think Nathan will be traded as well and that makes us in somewhat of a re-building phase.

    ONLY A 1-YEAR DEAL
