I've got a feeling that Thome enjoyed this season so much, money won't be a top priority to lure him back for one more go-round. The real dead weight is elsewhere on the roster and is readily identifiable.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11215059.post-49728273598551446012010-11-06T23:39:46.744-05:002010-11-06T23:39:46.744-05:00Love Thome.

I'm wary of his ability to repeat what he did this year. Something tells me that kind of like Favre, what we saw may have been a light burning at its brightest when it's about to go out. With a limited payroll, there's only so much it makes sense to pay for a guy like Thome. I'd rather spend the money on the bullpen. With pitchers on such strict pitch counts these days, so many games are won and lost on middle relief, you're not going to get very far with a bad bullpen.Lachesnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11215059.post-50754781985508243272010-11-04T20:08:10.822-05:002010-11-04T20:08:10.822-05:00Its promising that Thome signed a low-ball contrac...Its promising that Thome signed a low-ball contract last year. A lot of stars don't need the money, they just see it as something they are entitled to, and a slight if they don't get it (Dye. Oh yea, that was racism, my bad). Hopefully Thome still has a more pragmatic mindset and will be more focused on a ring then getting another 500k out of a team.Davenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11215059.post-47636662429446987542010-11-04T13:24:03.623-05:002010-11-04T13:24:03.623-05:00As long as the Twins don't try and win a biddi...As long as the Twins don't try and win a bidding war for him, he's worth bringing back. Farve will never be questioned for his competitiveness however, how many times has he waffled on retiring. Thome really seems to understand his back issues (his modified workout plan that we've heard he's teaching to Morneau) which leads me to believe that his comments of wanting to play again next year, are the far more promising than that of Farve getting lured out of retirement by 3 friends on the team.Four6Threehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04735706522395562644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11215059.post-60484150955163442442010-11-04T11:24:12.344-05:002010-11-04T11:24:12.344-05:00Nick,

As MLB Rumors was saying adn teh handbook agrees, 2 years at 14mil total, not bad at all. Would also give much more support to a cuddyer trade, as no more fear of a Morny back-up policy.Kisher123https://www.blogger.com/profile/04266866733121638619noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11215059.post-6861693637657115572010-11-04T09:54:02.059-05:002010-11-04T09:54:02.059-05:00I think the Twins would be better served to watch ...I think the Twins would be better served to watch him walk and use the money on a bullpen arm.

I think the Twins would be better served to watch him walk and use the money on a similar, but RH hitter who can also play the field if necessary.USAFChiefnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11215059.post-41802278850023646792010-11-04T09:37:43.424-05:002010-11-04T09:37:43.424-05:00Part of being a good GM is knowing when "quit...Part of being a good GM is knowing when "quit while you're ahead." I love Thome too, but like you, I think it's too much risk to bring him back, unless you could hammer out a deal that was VERY similar to what he had coming in last year.

People want to say "if this" and "if that," but history is a good teacher and the history of players his age as far as offensive production goes, is not good. If Thome remains on the bench and maintains his health, I wouldn't say his chances of reproducing his 2010 numbers would be "infinitely" impossible.soopadrivenoreply@blogger.com
